About me

I’m Margaret Taylor and I’m a psychotherapist and counsellor with more than twenty years experience of helping people.

My main professional interest is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). This together with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Practice Supervision of professional counsellors is the focus of my practice.

I specialise in working with adults suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and complex trauma. I also offer help for Eating and Anxiety Disorders, Chronic Pain and other conditions.

I’m a registered and accredited practitioner with both the EMDR Association of UK & Ireland and EMDR Europe.

I’m fully qualified to deliver EMDR. I studied with EMDR Europe approved trainers and completed Parts 1 to 4 of the formal training between 2009 and 2011. I developed my understanding of EMDR, its methodologies and helped many clients.

In February 2015, I achieved Accreditation with EMDR Europe and the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. I maintain my professional development and receive regular practice supervision from EMDR Europe approved supervisors.

I’m also a fully qualified practitioner of CBT. I studied for my Post-graduate Diploma at the Cullen Centre, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, where I specialised in the treatment of eating disorders including Binge Eating, Anorexia Nervosa, and Bulimia Nervosa. I received my Diploma in 2005. I’m a member of the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

Previously, I had a full career as a nurse with the UK National Health Service. As a hospital Charge Nurse and Assistant Nurse Manager, I was responsible for supervising nursing staff in general medical and surgical wards. I also worked in operating theatres, orthopaedics, casualty departments, and midwifery.
Towards the end of my nursing, I studied therapeutic counselling, an interest that developed into my vocation. So, after thirty years of service, I left the NHS to work as a counsellor for Fife Alcohol Support Service or FASS. This charity helps people resolve problem drinking and alcohol dependency.
Apart from a brief return to the NHS as a Practice Support Mental Health Nurse Specialist, the focus of my therapeutic work has been with FASS for many years, and latterly with my private practice.

What are they?

What are they?

EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing uses eye movements and other forms of bi-lateral stimulation of the brain. Unlike counselling, EMDR is a non-talking therapy. It is often used for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma. It can also be used for Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD), phobias, relief of Chronic Pain and other conditions.
CBT or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a structured talking therapy that focuses on the interactions of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It is often used for Eating Disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression and Anxiety Disorders, addictions and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD).
COUNSELLING is a talking therapy that focuses on developing personal insight into difficulties and implementing practical solutions and changes. Counselling is integrative and includes elements of Person Centred, CBT, Motivational Interviewing and other methodologies. It is often used for stress, relationships and life changes, coping with illness, alcohol problems and addictions.
